Award-Winning Programs

Girls Incorporated develops research-based informal education programs that encourage girls to take educated risks and master physical, intellectual and emotional challenges. Our programs address math, science and technology education, pregnancy prevention, media literacy, adolescent health, substance abuse prevention and sports participation.

Research

The National Resource Center of Girls Incorporated (NRC) is the organization's research, information services and training site.  Extensive research and evaluation conducted by the NRC provide the foundation for all Girls Incorporated programs. The NRC also responds to requests for information on girls' issues and distributes Girls Incorporated publications. Girls Incorporated of Greater Atlanta is available to provide local program information to other youth-serving agencies.

To contact NRC, or for additional information, call (317) 634-7546.

The Cobb / Marietta Center

The Cobb/Marietta Center has been a place for summer and after-school programming since Girls Incorporated of Greater Atlanta’s beginnings in 1976. Since that time, this center has grown from a one-room trailer to a building complete with classrooms and a gym.

Quotes from Participants & Partners

“Girls Inc programming has helped to increase awareness and personal self development among my girls. The program allowed the girls to learn respect for their individuality and broadened their horizons to empower them to be responsible and self-reliant. Each young lady gained valuable knowledge about their purpose and mission for life.” –Neddra Barnwell, Marietta Middle School

“Girls Inc helped empower and rebuild many of my young ladies self esteem and identity. Being associated with a nation-wide agency with such positive identity helped our girls grow strong, more knowledgeable and proud in being a young lady with opportunities and gifts. As a school social worker, I appreciated the support of Girls Inc because it reinforced what I was trying to teach the young ladies and it helped me to bridge many of the cultural and language barriers that inhibited my ability to develop necessary relationships with many of my at risk students.”
-Michelle Fleming, social worker at Holcomb Bridge Middle School

“Of the girls that stuck with the program and attended the meetings regularly, I saw a significant increase in self-confidence when interacting with both male and female peers. They were able to turn down inappropriate advances from boys and it also helped them to deal with things they did not understand or were uncomfortable talking about (especially with sexual topics).”

“The program gives the girls an opportunity to participate in discussions that are motivational and outside the normal classroom setting.”

“I did see an increase in attendance among participants, specifically with one of the students who participated. I believe that this program was major contributing factor for this specific student.”

“I would say that the girls did have more positive outlook on school as a whole, specifically within the social aspects of school.”
