Girls Inc. prides itself on being an advocate for girls. We are part of discussions on girls’ rights wherever and whenever they are held. We encourage your girls, their parents, and our supporters to do the same.
The website links listed below are to organizations who are advocates for girls’ and women’s issues. These organizations participate in discussions on policy, legislature and education that effect women and girls.
Georgia Women for a Change – Georgia Women for a Change is the official Advocacy Partner for Girls Inc. of Greater Atlanta. Founded in 1988, the mission of Georgia Women for a Change is to promote progressive public policy that benefits women, girls and their communities.
American Association of University Women (AAUW) - Their mission is “to promote equity for all women and girls, lifelong education, and positive societal change. Since 1881 the AAUW has been the nation’s leading voice promoting education and equity for women and girls.”
Association for Women in Science and Engineering (AWiSE) – “AWiSE is a multi-disciplinary membership organization composed of individuals, businesses, associations, institutions and other organizations, all of whom share the common goal of advancing the interests of women in science, engineering and technology (SET).”
BRIDGE – “supports gender advocacy and mainstream efforts by bridging the gaps between theory, policy and practice with accessible and diverse gender information in print and online. BRIDGE hosts a searchable database of gender and development materials from across the world.”
Center for Women Policy Studies – Founded in 1972, this “multiethnic and multicultural feminist research, policy analysis and advocacy bring women’s diverse voices to important debates – on women and AIDS, violence against women and girls, welfare reform, access to healthcare, educational equity, work/family and workplace diversity policies, reproductive rights and health.”
Child Advocate.org – “ this is a page for young people who wish to learn more about their human rights, and how to get involved with youth-led efforts for democracy and freedom. This website also welcomes writing and artwork from young people on the theme of human rights for young people and how kids think children and adolescents should be treated by parents, teachers and society in general.”
The Community Action Kit – “provides you with the tools you will need to become knowledgeable about sexuality education, build support in your state or community, work to implement sound policies, and institute or defend an effective comprehensive sexuality education program. The Kit is designed to serve as a tool for all advocates whether they are students, parents, teachers, school administrators, health professionals, youth-serving professionals, policymakers, or concerned community members.”
The Feminist Majority Foundation – “was founded in 1987, is a cutting edge organization dedicated to women's equality, reproductive health, and non-violence. In all spheres, FMF utilizes research and action to empower women economically, socially, and politically. Our organization believes that feminists – both women and men, girls and boys – are the majority, but this majority must be empowered.”
Feminists for Just & Equitable Public Policy (FemJEPP) – “is a provincial alliance of equality-seeking women's groups, individual social activists and women with first-hand experience and knowledge of the impacts of policies, programs and services at the local community level, seeking to improve public policy for women and their families.”
Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention (G-CAPP) – “is committed to enriching the lives of adolescents and helping them achieve a healthy, productive future free of early pregnancy. This website provides information on our programs, advocacy work and goals to empower Georgia’s youth to become immersed in education, armed with knowledge and strengthened with the tools to make positive, successful life decision.”
Center for Women’s Global Leadership – “(Global Center) develops and facilitates women’s leadership for women’s human rights and social justice worldwide… The Global Center works from a human rights perspective with an emphasis on violence against women, sexual and reproductive health and socio-economic well-being.”
The National Children’s Advocacy Center – “is a non-profit organization that provides training, prevention, intervention and treatment services to fight child abuse and neglect.”
National Children’s Alliance – “is a nationwide not-for-profit membership organization whose mission is to promote and support communities in providing a coordinated investigation and comprehensive response to victims of severe child abuse.”
National Organization for Women – “Since its founding in 1966, NOW's goal has been to take action to bring about equality for all women. NOW works to eliminate discrimination and harassment in the workplace, schools, the justice system, and all other sectors of society; secure abortion, birth control and reproductive rights for all women; end all forms of violence against women; eradicate racism, sexism and homophobia; and promote equality and justice in our society.”
National Women’s Law Center – Their mission is “to protect and advance the progress of women and girls at work, in school, and in virtually every aspect of their lives.”
Rock The Vote – “Rock the Vote engages youth in the political process by incorporating the entertainment community and youth culture into its activities. From actors to musicians, comedians to athletes, Rock the Vote harnesses cutting- edge trends and pop culture to make political participation cool.”
Saratoga Foundation for Women Worldwide – “The goal of Saratoga Foundation for Women Worldwide is to broaden the debate by expanding the perspective from which these issues are examined, and thus improve the lives of women. In identifying problems, the Saratoga Foundation for Women Worldwide moves forward to propose solutions and advocate for needed changes.”
US Women Connect – Links US women and girls to the global women’s movement. This site has several links to policy pages and non-profit women’s and girls organizations around the United States and the world.
The Women’s Research and Education Institute (WREI) – “WREI’s mission is to identify issues affecting women and their roles in the family, workplace, and public arena, and to inform and help shape the public policy debate on these issues.”
Women’s Sports Foundation – “Our mission is to advance the lives of girls and women through sports and physical activity.” Their goals are to be: worldwide leaders, expert educators, a participation catalyst, successful fundraiser and excellent steward.
Youth on Board – “prepares youth to be leaders and decision makers in their communities and strengthens relationships between youth and adults through publications, customized workshops, and technical assistance.” Their mission is to “help young people and adults think differently about each other so that they can work together to change society.”
Youth Vote Coalition – “is a national nonpartisan coalition of diverse organizations dedicated to engaging youth between the ages of 18-30 in the political process. The Youth Vote Coalition has over 100 national members who represent young people across the country.”
